PICSy - Potsdam Intelligent Camera System University of Potsdam, Department of Computer Science, Computer Engineering

Description

The importance of visual sensing processing has continued to grow in the last decades. Besides traditional areas like visual inspection and visual manufacturing, the processing of visual information in order to gain some knowledge is also a reality in new application fields like automotive, security, visual navigation and assisted living.

The design of the Potsdam Intelligent Camera System (PICSY) aspires to be a general high performance image processing platform, with real-time imaging capabilities. To address a very powerful system in terms of computation and scalability, the PICSY utilizes multi FPGAs such as scalable image processor. Regarding this ability the PICSY could offer dynamic load distribution and task reconfiguration.

Definition

The PICSY project is the development of cooperative smart camera system to investigate and facilitate the principles of self organization in networked embedded systems. The goal is to develop a flexible and extensible monitor to track the state of the surrounding neighborhood (devices and their services), which serves as the basis for a powerful and flexible approach to manage the available resources in networked embedded systems with reconfigurable hardware.
