LPNMR'09: Excursions

There will be two excursions, both of which will directly follow the scientific parts of the conference program on the respective days. The excursion on Tuesday is a joint event of LPNMR and WLP. The excursion on Wednesday is an event of LPNMR. We below provide detailed information about both excursions.

Tuesday (Park Sanssouci)

After the scientific program part, we will go by bus from the conference site to Park Sanssouci [Wikipedia]. On the tracks of Frederick the Great (King of Prussia in 1740-1786) [Wikipedia], a guided walking tour will lead us through the beautiful park, past Sanssouci Palace [Wikipedia] donating its name to the large park around, and eventually to the New Palace [Wikipedia]. The Communs, located directly opposite to the westward-opening court of honor of the New Palace, were originally housing the royal kitchens, utilities, gardeners' shops, palace guards, and servants. Nowadays, the Communs are used by the University of Potsdam as part of its main campus. The campus will host LPNMR and WLP reception, including a buffet and drinks.

We expect the walk through Park Sanssouci to take about one and a half hours. The following reception will continue for about two more hours. Shuttle buses depart from the conference site at 5:20 p.m. (PLEASE BE ON TIME) and return from the New Palace at 10:00 p.m., going through Potsdam Hauptbahnhof back to Griebnitzsee station. In case you want to leave from New Palace (bus stop Neues Palais) to Potsdam Hauptbahnhof (terminal stop) individually, the available bus lines and (some of) their departure times are:

  • Bus Line 605: ..., 8:57 p.m., 9:17 p.m., 9:57 p.m., 10:17 p.m., 10:57 p.m., ...
  • Bus Line 606: ..., 9:37 p.m., 10:37 p.m., ...

Please query VBB or BVG if you wish to look up alternative connections. In case you need a taxi, you can call one by phone: +49331292929.

Wednesday (Braumanufaktur Forsthaus Templin)

After the scientific program part, we will embark a boat at Griebnitzsee. Following the course of the Havel river, we will pass by Babelsberg and Potsdam's city center, where the Isle of Friendship divides the Havel into two arms. Eventually, we will cross half of the Templiner Lake and disembark the boat close to the brewery restaurant Braumanufaktur Forsthaus Templin (their website in German). After a guided tour through the brewery, we will have dinner in the affiliated restaurant. The dinner can be accompanied with several home-brewed, organic beer specialties, which have even made it into the "German Beer News & Microbrewery Tips" [Article (PDF)]. Beyond the beautiful scenery, organic beers, and solid food, the award ceremony to this year's answer set programming competition will be another highlight at the dinner.

We expect the boat tour to take about one and a half hours, and the guided tour through the brewery another half an hour. We set off from the conference site at 3:45 p.m. (PLEASE BE ON TIME) and walk to the boat. The way back is by shuttle bus leaving from the brewery restaurant at 10:00 p.m., going through Potsdam Hauptbahnhof back to Griebnitzsee station. In case you want to leave from the restaurant (bus stop Forsthaus Templin) to Potsdam Hauptbahnhof (terminal stop) individually, there are only few buses available:

  • Bus Line 607: ..., 8:36 p.m., 10:03 p.m., 0:03 a.m.
In case you need a taxi, you can call one by phone: +49331292929.
